Chief Operating Officer
Leslie Townsell is a graduate student in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Georgia. She is currently studying the impacts of climate change on oyster aquaculture along the coast of Georgia. She enjoys marine science because she loves being on the water and investigating what’s underneath it. She is involved with Black In Marine Science because she wants to shed light on the lack of diversity in the field and inspire other black women and girls to take up space in this predominantly white field. She wants to break down barriers and pave the way to make it a little easier for those black girls following in her footsteps.
