Dr. Staton Belford

Dr. Stanton holds a BSc in Biology from The University of Tennessee Southern, an MS in Biology from Middle Tennessee State University, and a Ph.D. from Auburn University. He is an Associate Professor and Biology Program Coordinator at The University of Tennessee Southern.
Dr. Stanton's research passion centers on marine biodiversity and conservation, with a particular focus on coral reefs and invertebrates in Trinidad. His ongoing field studies and molecular analysis in the Caribbean yield insights into species identification and ecosystem health. He actively mentors undergraduate students in research techniques and engages them in the field. An advocate for diverse perspectives in science, Dr. Stanton co-edits the Continental and Diasporic Africa in Science Research (CADASE) magazine. He also leads student expeditions to Trinidad, fostering transformative learning experiences that combine marine research with cultural immersion. |
