"I'm excited about the new Black Disney princess and the representation it brings. As a Black marine scientist, diverse characters andstories matter. It's inspiring for little Black girls to have a role model who looks like them and represents their experiences. I can’t imagine its positive impact on future generations, and that’s why we want to premier it as the BIMS Institute welcome event to Hampton. We havea whole organization filled with real-life Black mermaids, and now the world gets to see us as well." says Dr. Tiara Moore, Founder andCEO of Black In Marine Science.
Black In Marine Science, Mahogany Mermaids, and the Ocean Conservancy encourage everyone to join them for this special event.Whether you're a long-time supporter or new to the cause, there's something for everyone at the premiere of the live-action Little Mermaid.

Mahogany Mermaids was founded in August 2016. After completing a pre-PhD program in the summer of 2016, their CEO, Aliyah Griffith, became concerned about the lack of women of color in STEM, particularly in the aquatic sciences. About the Ocean Conservancy
Originally founded in 1972 by Bill Kardash as the Delta Organization, the name was changed in 1975 to the Center for Environmental Education (CEE). In 1989, CEE became the Center for Marine Conservation, more aptly defining our mission and focus on the ocean, andin 2001, they were officially renamed The Ocean Conservancy. Ocean Conservancy is at the forefront of ocean conservation. They work worldwide to ensure a healthy ocean and protect the wildlife and communities that depend on it. Because the ocean impacts each one of us—the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat—the ocean is the responsibility of us all.
